PEORIA (25News Now) - Illinois American Water says they are temporarily changing to a different form of chlorine - “free chlorine” - that may cause a noticeable chlorine taste or smell in water in Peoria.
The change begins today and lasts until October 29.
The water company says they are doing this as part of normal distribution system maintenance.
“Free chlorine” does not contain ammonia and is often used in conjunction with flushing water mains and fire hydrants.
Illinois American Water says anyone with a healthcare need that requires purified or filtered water should reach out to their healthcare provider with any questions.

Congratulations to our final recipient of our BDD Grant Program. Doris Penn received reimbursement for replacing some windows in her home. I believe Doris told us they were 50+ years old! Looks great and enjoy!
Congratulations to our next recipients of the BDD Grant Program! Donna Stout and OPM Realty. Donna was able to get new hand rails and spindles, and OPM redid their parking lot (We really like the green color!). Congratulations to both!
The Village of Hanna City would like to congratulate our most recent BDD Grant recipients! The Hog Trof received reimbursement for redoing their parking lot and Erik and Deborah Peterson received their reimbursement for redoing their soffit and fascia. Looks fantastic!
